DESCRIPTION:On Thursday, February 23, the BNS-YG (Belgian Nuclear Society Young Generation) Scientific Contest took place at Tractebel head office. In total, 15 manuscripts have been received. This year, the BNS-YG has the privilege to award 2 special prizes, which are donated by ONDRAF/NIRAS, for the best Master Theses defended at a Belgian University.\nFor the Oral Competition, the ranking is as follows:\n\nGregory Leinders, for his work at KU Leuven and SCK•CEN on “Assessment of the U3O7 Crystal Structure by X‑ray and Electron Diffraction”[um_show_content roles=’administrator,um_bns-member’] (presentation available here)[/um_show_content];\nLuca Egoriti, for his work at SCK•CEN and Politecnico di Milano on “Analytical model for release calculations in solid thin-foils ISOL targets”[um_show_content roles=’administrator,um_bns-member’] (presentation available here)[/um_show_content];\nPierre Henneaux, for his work at Tractebel on “Reliability of offsite power of nuclear power plants in evolving power systems”[um_show_content roles=’administrator,um_bns-member’] (presentation available here)[/um_show_content].\n\nTwo ONDRAF/NIRAS Master Thesis Prizes were attributed:\n\nEmma Coninx, from the University of Hasselt, for her Master Thesis performed at SCK•CEN: “Mitochondria: a matter of life and death after irradiation?”[um_show_content roles=’administrator,um_bns-member’] (Master Thesis available here)[/um_show_content];\nFlorence Dandoy, from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, for her Master Thesis: “Comparaison systématique des taux de production au sein de la cible à ISOL@MYRRHA, ISOLDE et ISAC”.\n\nFor the Poster Session, the prize went to Francesco Buglione, for his work on “Evaluation of radioisotope production capabilities in MYRRHA”[um_show_content roles=’administrator,um_bns-member’] (thesis available here)[/um_show_content].\n
