SUMMARY:Evening Lecture – EU Long-Term Decarbonisation Strategy
DESCRIPTION:Parties of the Paris Agreement have to present their long-term low greenhouse gas emission strategies by 2020.\nAs a first step to fullfill this committment, the European Commission developed an EU Long Term Decarbonisation Strategy of the European economy. The analysis is based on techno-economic modelling of the energy system. Eight scenarios were developed and compared to a baseline scenario. Each decarboniation scenario is compatible with the Paris Agreement, but each describes a different technology pathway or has different emission reduction ambition.\nThe results from their modelling were complemented with an extensive analysis of existing studies and with a public consultation. The Strategy describes decarbonisation options for each sector of the Economy in light of the modelling results. Other aspects addressed by the study include: macroeconomic impacts, investment needs, effects on the employment, regional and social implications and co-benefits of the Energy transition.\n
